I bought this as a birthday present for a mathematician, and read it after he praised it. Finished it in four days and greatly enjoyed the history of one of the world's great math problems. Written so that it didn't matter if I understood the problems as numbers, I understood the problem as a progression of discoveries in ideas about numbers and their application to other sciences. So I cheered when the problem was solved (three hundred years after it was proposed) and by that time, I understood why it was so important to solve it. Yeah for Simon Singh and his clear, engaging story-telling.
